Sidecar, a car service similar to Lyft and Uber but with a fraction of the user base of either of those companies, is shutting down. Its founder said so in a Medium post yesterday. The company raised $35 million from a group of investors that included Richard Branson and Union Square Ventures, and was looking around for a buyer in its last days.

Palantir, the $20 billion data analysis startup with close ties to the Department of Defense, has a unique problem. It's making a lot of money and it doesn't want to go public anytime soon, but its executives, employees and investors want to cash in on their equity stakes. Instacart is an online grocery delivery service valued at $2 billion. It's raised a lot of money very quickly in an industry where it's difficult to turn a big profit, which has turned a number of heads.
