Read Now  • On Tuesday, a federal judge ruled that Apple must alter iPhone software to allow the FBI access to a phone it says was used in planning the San Bernardino mass shooting in December. Late Tuesday night, Apple CEO Tim Cook published a public letter to Apple customers that condemned the order, saying that it would needlessly expose consumer data. Cook indicated that Apple plans to appeal the ruling. [Noah Kulwin | Re/code] • There's a slowdown in corporate spending because of the instability in the stock market. As more firms look to trim costs by running their digital services on the cloud, expect Amazon, Microsoft, Google and others to rake in big bucks from new customers. [Jay Greene | The Wall Street Journal] • There's a new member of the Alphabet family: Jigsaw, formerly Google Ideas, a pet project of chairman Eric Schmidt that will be the conglomerate's in-house think tank focusing on problems that include organized crime, police brutality, human trafficking and terrorism. [Kurt Wagner | Re/code] • American Airlines is suing its in-flight Wi-Fi Internet partner Gogo, saying that Gogo's Internet is so bad that it gives the airline the right to cancel their agreement. American provides between 10 percent and 15 percent of Gogo's revenue, and Gogo stock slid almost 30 percent on the news. [Sapna Maheshwari | BuzzFeed News] • Marijuana startups and dispensaries have a tough time growing their businesses because they often can't store their money in banks, which don't want to violate federal law. A number of weed-focused financial services startups are stepping up to the plate, which some take as a sign of how the marijuana market is growing up.
