Hi, Facebook says it isn't a media company. Many people say it is. But that debate doesn't matter: What matters to the rest of the world is that Facebook, with its 1.8 billion users and huge share of digital ad dollars, has enormous influence on the media landscape. That's why Kara Swisher, Walt Mossberg and I are excited to have Dan Rose, Facebook's vice president of partnerships, joining us onstage at Code Media next month. Rose is the executive who figures out how Facebook will interact with everyone from newspaper publishers to TV networks; he's also the company's main deal guy. So, we'll have plenty to talk about, from Facebook's ambitions in video to the way it distributes news, both real and fake. And Rose will fit in quite nicely with the rest of our speakers — a who's who of the most interesting and influential people in media and technology: 20th Century Fox CEO Stacey Snider Apple media boss Eddy Cue Amazon video VP Roy Price Starz CEO Chris Albrecht Tasty general manager Ashley McCollum National Geographic Channel CEO Courteney Monroe AwesomenessTV CEO Brian Robbins Celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson Google revenue chief Philipp Schindler Propagate Content CEO Ben Silverman Stratechery analyst Ben Thompson The Washington Post's top editor Marty Baron Do you want to join them? Of course you do: They'll be gathering February 13-14 at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel, California. Sign up here, and we'll see you there. See you next month. Peter Kafka |
