Code Commerce: Inside Marc Lore’s high-stakes race with Amazon

Hi,

Last week, I reported how Walmart is at an inflection point — with internal debates about how aggressively it should compete with Amazon for US e-commerce market share. At Code Commerce this fall, I'll speak directly with the entrepreneur-turned-executive at the center of this business: Marc Lore.

When Walmart acquired Jet.com in 2016, Lore agreed to stay on for five years to lead the retailer's online strategy in the US. About halfway in, he's overseen a slew of acquisitions of specialty retailers and direct-to-consumer brands, and he's helped lead a mass expansion of a successful online grocery business. But he's also facing internal pressure to cut his division's mounting losses while pushing management to dramatically expand Walmart's logistics capabilities.

This September, I'll sit down with Lore for a live conversation about Walmart's e-commerce strategy, what's worked, what hasn't, and what's next. Hope to see you there: events.recode.net/events/code-commerce-2019
