Read Now  • Unicorn startups have been able to easily raise large amounts of money in the private market, which let them avoid an IPO. But big investors are now skittish, because unicorns that have gone public haven't done so well of late - which means more unicorns may have to go public, whether they want to or not. [Telis Demos | The Wall Street Journal] • GM is investing $500 million in Lyft, the would-be rival to Uber. For GM, the money is a bet on diversification; for Lyft, the dollars are a part of a $1 billion round to help it try to keep up with Uber, which is far ahead in the car service wars. [Kara Swisher and Mark Bergen | Re/code] • Twitter has made a small investment in Muzik, a startup that's about to start selling $300 "connected headphones". It's Twitter's first bet on hardware; in return, the service will be directly integrated into Muzik's headphones and other gadgets. [Peter Kafka | Re/code] • This week marks the beginning of CES, the gigantic tech industry confab in Las Vegas.
